General description:

Supports the development of research partnerships among multiple investigators. Funding: Up to $13,750,000 over 4 years. Award of a single cooperative agreement is anticipated. Applicants are encouraged to address one or more of the Program Focus Areas and to justify the applicability of the research to the injured military and/or veteran population requiring reconstructive composite tissue allotransplantation. FY12 RTR Program Focus Areas:
1. Applied Research
     * Immunomodulation approaches and mechanisms e.g. tolerance induction, chimerism;
     * Prolongation of allograft preservation/mitigation of ischemic injury;
     * Understanding of mechanisms of immune rejection;
     * Development of preclinical animal models of chronic rejection and vasculopathy;
     * Optimization of immunosuppressive drugs regimens
2. Clinical Monitoring of Composite Tissue Allotransplant Recipients
     * Histopathology;
     * Imaging;
     * Immune profiling e.g. gene expression, graft rejection markers, cytokine screens;
     * Vasculopathy
3. Standardization of Processes and Protocol
     * Collaboration in clinical protocol standardization...;
     * Standardization of procedures for pathology
