Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF): Challenge Programme (with Danish PI)- Short expression of interest

Name: Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF): Challenge Programme (with Danish PI)- Short expression of interest
Application deadline: 25/10/23
General description:

Integrating safety and environmental sustainability impacts of bio-based solutions: Within scope are bio-based solutions for:

  • Agriculture including plant biologicals for protecting or stimulating crops such as microbe-based biopesticides or biostimulants; plants or bioinoculants for improving sustainable agriculture management practices; and crops produced from advanced plant breeding technologies or new genomic techniques (NGTs).
  • Food and nutrition including alternative proteins and other fermentation-based food and ingredients; and preservation technologies for reducing food loss.
  • Environmental remediation that removes pollutants from soil or water in the open environment.

The research must be interdisciplinary in nature and conducted by 2-4 research groups (main Danish applicant plus 1-3 worldwide co-applicants).

Funding: up to approx. DKK 10M/ year for up to 6 years (total budget of € ~4M-8M per grant)

Disentangling insulin resistance: Research may include, but is not limited to:

  • Identifying novel underlying causal molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance incentral and peripheral tissues including but not restricted to muscle, adipose, liver, kidney, brain, and blood vessels.
  • Understanding the roles of insulin resistance in the progression of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, neurodegenerative disorders or other related co-morbidities.
  • Understanding insulin resistance heterogeneity in diverse populations based on genetics, clinical measures, and biomarkers for development of precision-based or personalized risk assessment and treatment strategies

Should have 2-4 research groups (main Danish applicant plus 1-3 worldwide co-applicants).

Novel or emerging technologies for sustainable and continuous energy supply: Research may include, but is not limited to:

  • Research on novel or emerging nuclear technologies that may become affordable and address safety and waste concerns as, e.g., small modular reactors, thorium breeder reactors, or molten salt reactors.
  • Fundamental research that advances our understanding of fusion power generation.
  • The physics and chemistry of molten salts, and their application in energy storage across relevant timescales.
  • Development of fundamental knowledge or technologies that address the scope of the challenge.

Should have 2-4 research groups (main Danish applicant plus 1-3 worldwide co-applicants).

Funding: up to approx. DKK 10M/ year for up to 6 years (total budget of € ~4M-8M per grant)
