Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP): Research Grants in Basic Biology

HFSP supports international, preferably intercontinental, collaborations in fundamental biological research with emphasis on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding complex mechanisms of living organisms. Preliminary results are not required.

Young Investigators’ Grants are for teams of scientists, all within 5 years of establishing an independent laboratory and within 10 years of obtaining their first doctoral degree (MD or PhD).

Program Grants are for teams of independent scientists (at all stages of career, participation of younger scientists is encouraged), to develop new lines of research through the collaboration.

Funding: Grants provide 3 years support. Awards are dependent upon team size and successful teams will receive up to $450,000/year. The principal applicant must be located in one of the member countries [Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus (EU part only), the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.]. Co-investigators may be located in any country, with at least one in a country other than the PA.
