תיאור כללי:

Idea Development Award: This award promotes new ideas that are still in the early stages of development and have the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. Awards conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research; encourages independent investigators in early stages of career (within 10 yrs of first faculty appointment). $350,000 for 2 yr projects. http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=275735

- Career Development Award: supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. $240,000 for 2 yr projects. http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=275724

- Clinical Exploration Award – clinical trials or correlative studies: supports early-phase, proof-of-principle clinical trials and correlative studies to investigate hypothesis-based, innovative interventions that have the potential to resolve current clinical barriers and result in a profound impact on the clinical management of lung cancer. Clinical Trials $450,000 for 3 yr projects; Correlative Studies $250,000 for 2 year projects. http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=275734

- Concept Award: funds 1-year projects up to $100,000. http://www.grants.gov/view-opportunity.html?oppId=276815

Topics Areas for all opportunities in this program:

  • Identify or develop noninvasive or minimally invasive tools to improve detection of the initial stages of lung cancer.
  • Identify, develop, and/or build upon already existing tools for screening or early detection of lung cancer. Screening may include, but is not limited to imaging modalities, biomarkers, genetics/genomics/proteomics/metabolomics/transcriptomics, and assessment of risk factors.
  • Understand the molecular mechanisms of progression to clinically significant lung cancer.
  • Understand the molecular mechanisms that lead to various subtypes of lung cancer.
  • Identify innovative strategies for prevention and treatment of early and/or localized lung cancer.
  • Understand predictive and prognostic markers to identify responders and nonresponders.
  • Understand susceptibility or resistance to treatment.
