Water Research Foundation: Practical Monitoring Tools & Performance Benchmarking & Fate of Polymer-Derived Nitrosamine Precursors & High Consequence Isolation Valve Placement

Name: Water Research Foundation: Practical Monitoring Tools & Performance Benchmarking & Fate of Polymer-Derived Nitrosamine Precursors & High Consequence Isolation Valve Placement
Application deadline: 15/07/15
General description:

- Practical Monitoring Tools for the Biological Processes in Biofiltration: The objective of this project is to achieve the following: 1) provide information on practical, field-tested monitoring tools that can be used for drinking water biofiltration, 2) assist drinking water utilities in selecting monitoring tools and developing holistic monitoring strategies and 3) advise drinking water biofiltration facility operators on using monitoring tools for day-to-day operation. $225,000-$275,000/flexible duration.
- Performance Benchmarking of Pumps and Pumping Systems for Drinking Water Utilities: Using a performance benchmarking approach, identify best practices and performance metrics associated with optimal energy efficiency of drinking water utilities’ pumps and pumping systems. $200,000-$225,000/flexible duration.
- Understanding the Source and Fate of Polymer-Derived Nitrosamine Precursors: The objectives of this project are to develop a strong understanding of how cationic polymers contribute to NDMA formation, and identify measures that a water agency can implement to reduce polymer-derived NDMA formation. $325,000-$350,000/flexible duration.
- High Consequence Isolation Valve Placement and Operation for Effective Risk Management of Pipe Failure: This project will focus on high consequence isolation valves as a component of risk management of high consequence pipe failure. It will develop a practical guidance manual on risk management and present several business cases using triple bottom line analysis. $215,000-$235,000/flexible duration.
--- Note, both programs require a 25% cost-share – if interested contact the Research Authority in advance - RA-TEC@trdf.technion.ac.il, 2152/1745/1769.
--- Collaboration with a US partner is warmly recommended for improving funding potential.
