The mission of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine is to advance the science, education and professional practice of medical physics, which is a broadly-based scientific and professional discipline encompassing physics principles and applications in biology and medicine. The AAPM has established Medical Physics as its primary scientific and informational journal. The AAPM is a Member of the American Institute of Physics. AAPM membership information and application forms may be obtained from the Executive Officer.

The AAPM is a scientific, educational, and professional organization of 8309 medical physicists. Headquarters are located at the American Center for Physics in College Park, MD, with a staff of 26, Annual budget is 10.5M. Publications include a scientific journal (Medical Physics), an applied clinical journal (JACMP), technical reports, and symposium proceedings.
